The pace has suddenly picked up - packing up, moving to Sydney, and stepping into what comes next.
From February 2026, I will begin a semester of full-time, residential study at Sydney Missionary & Bible College (SMBC).
This doesn’t feel like stepping away from mission, but like tending the roots - making space to be formed well as I continue discerning long-term service and where that might be.
Why study now
As I look ahead, I’ve become increasingly aware that if I hope to serve faithfully over the long term, I need more than experience alone. I need to be theologically grounded, relationally shaped, and wisely accompanied.
This season of study will allow space for that kind of formation. It will give me time to:
Be more theologically equipped, especially in Scripture and mission
Learn alongside others who are also discerning their callings
Receive mentorship from people who have walked the missionary road before
Continue conversations with mission organisations and fields, without rushing decisions or forcing outcomes
In many ways, this feels like a hinge moment - between having gone into the field, and being sent more wisely.
What I’ll be studying
I’ll be undertaking a Diploma of Divinity, with the option to extend into a Master’s degree in the future if appropriate.
Alongside this, I’ll also be completing the Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM) - a course that is especially practical and central to my missionary formation.
I’ve chosen to study residentially, which I’m genuinely looking forward to. SMBC places a strong emphasis on communal life - shared meals, shared rhythms, and learning in community - and I see this as an important part of formation, not just an added benefit.
The practical picture
Most of my tuition fees are covered through a government loan (FEE-HELP). There are two costs not covered:
Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM): $2,300
Residential accommodation and meals: $8,500
Total cost: $10,800 (First Semester)
I want to say thank you here. Some friends have already given very generously, and $5,500 has been contributed so far. I’m deeply grateful for that kindness and trust.
Part of this step for me is learning to ask openly and honestly - not from urgency, but from a desire not to carry this season alone.
If you’re in a position to help financially with the remaining costs ($5,300), I would be very grateful.
I’ll continue to share honestly as this season unfolds, as I always have. Thank you for reading, and for the many ways you’ve encouraged and walked with me along the way.
